Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Are programs licensed?
A: KLC School Partnerships' Champions Before and After School Programs are fully licensed. This means that safety and fire codes, teacher qualifications, and curriculum must all meet or exceed state standards. Licensed programs offer parents/schools peace of mind that basic, proven procedures are followed daily to provide a meaningful and safe environment.
Q: Are prospective staff members carefully screened?
A: KLC School Partnerships performs state and federal backgrounds checks on all prospective employees to screen for history of abuse. We also perform three professional reference checks to obtain the best possible understanding of candidates' ability to work successfully with children.
Q: Is the curriculum supported by research?
A: Absolutely. For our Champions Before and After School Programs, significant research supports our approach. Dr. Deborah Lowe Vandell, Dr. James Young, and other researchers have demonstrated that strictly academic programs tend to depress children and lead to poorer school performance, while programs that incorporate the arts, physical activities, and academics best help children succeed.
In the Supplemental Educational Services (SES) arena (Champions Tutoring), our reading programs are based on the National Reading Panel Report's five pillars of instruction, while mathematics instruction is built on National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) standards.
Finally, for Champions Science Adventures programs, projects and activities emphasize key science concepts based on the National Science Standards.
Q: Do staff members receive professional support for curriculum implementation?
A: KLC School Partnerships employs a professional team of curriculum development and support specialists. They address our field staff's needs by providing full training on all curriculum materials and by serving as an ongoing resource for curriculum implementation tips and guidelines.
Q: How is children's safety assured?
A: With over 30 years of experience in the childcare and extended learning field, KLC School Partnerships has accumulated a wealth of childcare and management best practices that cannot easily be matched. We ensure that these best practices are implemented daily at all sites.
Q: How is staff professionalism monitored?
A: Our internally developed Top 10 Quality Criteria (defined by over 50 staff, classroom, and company expectations), mean that our parents and clients see consistent quality levels daily at all our sites. The Top 10 Criteria serve as both a training and an assessment tool.
