Sample Champions Top 10:
The Before and After School Top 10 Criteria
KLC School Partnerships' internally developed Top 10 Quality Criteria, defined by over 50 staff and classroom expectations that serve as subcategories under each item, mean that our parents and clients see consistent quality levels DAILY at all KLC School Partnerships sites. Based on national accreditation standards and customized by age group, the Top 10 Criteria serve as both a training and assessment tool.
The following are the 10 program elements that must be observed in all Champions programs:
- Staff Present a Professional Appearance - Staff dress appropriately, wear nametags and exhibit appropriate decorum.
- Licensing Requirements Met or Exceeded - A current license is posted along with other items, such as emergency numbers, necessitated by each specific state's requirements.
- Program is Easily Identified with Signs and Banners - The program must be easily recognizable at the school site. Each program should display marketing information and newsletters.
- Communication Area is Complete - The Champions communication area is a display board and table that provides useful information to parents, children and school personnel. Items such as an activity plan, snack menu, profiles of site personnel, KLC School Partnerships' mission statement, and fee information should be evident on the board.
- Activity Plans are Complete and Implemented - Activity plans demonstrate daily planning and input from program children. It is evident that these activities are currently implemented in the program.
- Five Activity Areas are Established - Equipment is in good repair, program set up and storage adequately support each area, and instructional tools and games are in use.
- Five Table Top Signs are Present - Current Table Top Signs are set up for each activity area; signs legibly provide activities details for staff, parents, and children.
- Staff Interactions are Appropriate - Children are managed through a disciplinary method that is consistently positive. Everyone entering the program, including parents and school staff members, is greeted in a friendly, professional manner. Staff work to inform parents of children's activities.
- Appropriate Child Guidance and Conflict Resolution Systems are in Place - Children and parents are aware of the program's behavioral expectations. Staff are consistent in their expectations and responses and appropriate documentation and follow up is taking place.
- Self-Serve Snack is Prepared - A nutritious snack is available for at least 40 minutes per day. Hand washing procedures are carefully followed prior to snack time.
